History and
Growth
Ben Schaub had a vision of creating an ever-expanding network of foundations that provide increasing financial assistance to charities. He knew that without private capital, many important social, educational, scientific, and religious programs would not survive. Operating under these ideals, the Interstate Support Foundation experienced considerable growth. In 1997, the ISF received several millions of dollars from affiliated family foundations earmarked to fulfill the vision and mission of the founder. To expand service to communities nationwide, Mr. Schaub created a new organization called the American Foundation, Inc. In 1997, ICF's name was changed to the American Community Foundation and ISF's name was changed to the American Foundation for Charitable Support. In the same year, he expanded his original vision to include needy charities around the world by creating the World Foundation and the World Support Foundation. The American Foundation actively promotes and assists in the development of new family, corporate, and community foundations. To build networks of cooperation, mutual assistance, and support among charities, foundations, and donors; new foundations are considered members of the "American Family of Foundations." The American Foundation acts as a public charity umbrella for all affiliated foundations. For the last 20 years, the American Foundation has been committed to promoting and helping create vast amounts of new and more effective philanthropy. We believe that unity and synergy among donors, foundations, and charities will bring about a significant improvement in our society and around the globe. | |
